Front garden ideas
Hi there,
I need some inspiration for my front garden. I like the lavender and rosemary we have next to the path on the right. The left path doesn't belong to us.
My husband doesn't want to see the man hole cover any more and wants to put a tree in a pot on it - but I think this would attract more attention to it as it wouldn't be central etc.
I was thinking that a hedge would be nice around the front and left (as you're looking at the picture) but a tree would be nice to look at from the front window!
The front garden is north facing.
Grateful for any ideas!
Many thanks.

Hi EmLa. I am not sure that a hedge would be the perfect answer to your garden. I think it would only 'draw' in the side of your garden and make it look smaller. As the garden faces north it will not get a great deal of light and a hedge would restrict the light even further. If you intend to keep some of the grass then the hedge would shade out the light from that. The path that you say is not yours i.e. the one on the left, would have to be accessed to trim your hedge (whichever one you were thinking of) and that may be rather awkward. I must admit that a tree in a pot on the manhole cover - not being in the middle of the garden would not matter to me in the slightest. I would prefer it.
To add interest, rather than a hedge why not go for a nice border of perennials underplanted with bulbs for next Spring. There are many flowering plants that would relish that north facing area.
only problem I can see is the black square in the middle of the lawn, is that a drain cover or a cable box? as that would effect what you plant close to it in regards to a tree.
if its a cable box then planting a tree into the ground should be fine, if its a drain then not so much
