Gravel paths in veg plot

I have an area of raised beds for vegetables with grass between them which I want to change to gravel paths. Do you think I need to remove all the grass or can I just cover it with membrane and then gravel on top? Have thought about killing grass with weed killer first.

I'd do both, a quick spray (especially along the edges) with roundup and cover with weed membrane.  To protect the membrane from being punctured by the sharp edges of the gravel I'd recommend a layer of woven landscaping fabric on top of the membrane, too.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thank you Bob. It is quite a large area and I didn't really want to have to remove all the grass first.
