Tree to plant near driveway

New here and not much of a Gardner but was hoping for some advice on trees.

I want to plant a tree in the front garden in a spot near the drive. This is a tarmac drive and the tree would be at most a couple of feet from the edge. I want something that won't damage the driveway as it grows.

I'd like something traditional and English, and deciduous, but that won't be enormous when mature as in not more than 30 feet max. I was thinking of maybe a silver birch, would that work, what are the other possibilities ?

Silver birch Jacquemontii is nice. Crab apples aren't too big and have blossom in spring and fruit in autumn. Rowans have lovely berries. Amalanchier for spring flowers and autumn foliage.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
