Ladybirds are waking up

I have spotted two ladybirds which have woken up in the house. Unfortunately one was a harlequin ladybird. I couldn't bring myself to kill it so I put it outside in the cold, which seemed cruel! What would you do?image

As I understand it,  advice is not to kill Harlequins - they are here - we will not be able to get rid of them.  They eat aphids.

I would have put it outside, it's where they live. They can't hibernate  (or whatever they do in winter) in a warm house but are unlikely to find much to eat.

Thank you Nut and Dove for your response. As there is no frost today I expect the little creature will survive. I identified it by its brown legs and spotty markings. I am sorry to lose the indigenous species though and it has to be said that I saw very few of those last year.image
