Another mystery plant

So I'm helping out in a friend's garden, and this plant seems to have spread through a lot of it. Going to be cutting a lot of it out I think, but just not sure what it is.. Kind of looks like a kind of thornless rose to me...

Any thoughts?

  • Kerria japonica. Bit of a thug if allowed, but pretty yellow double (usually) flowers in mid spring. That one could do with all the old dead wood being removed and the strong stems free'd up. Let it flower and see what you think.

  • Thank you! I'll be able to plan my cutting back a lot better now :)

  • luckily Kerria is quite easy to dig out, just chip away little bits at a time rather than try to get big lumps out.
