Help identifying plants please
Good afternoon,
I have just bought a home, and am now the proud owner of my very first garden. To call myself a beginner would probably be overstating my experience, so I hope you won't mind if I bother you with some stupid questions.
First on my list of stupid questions is could you please help me identify the following two plants? One is a nice hedge that seems to stay green over the winter (unlike the hedge it is next to):
And the other is either a short tree or a big plant:
Thank you very much for looking.

No 1 looks like common privet.
No 2 looks like cupressus Goldcrest but could be any number of others.
Hostafan's spot on. Privet - ligustrum ovalifolium, makes an easy hedge, clip it June time. The conifer is cupressus macrocarpa 'Goldcrest' which will make a 20ft tree, but can suffer in the coldest weather.

Thank you both very much! That will allow me to do some research and get started on making my garden a bit more green.
