Trim Knophia Leaves

I have a medium sized Knophia in my border.

The leaves trail all over the lawn and as such the grass is dying. I do not have anywhere else for it to go so.

Can I cut the leaves back so that the grass has a fighting chance.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I would cut them off the lawn, I cut everything what is overhanging causing damage to the lawn.

I might be an idea to change the kniphofia to a smaller variety / trying to find space somewhere else or re-cut the lawn edge around the plant.

I'd agree with Perki. You'll have the same issue every year, so either replace with a smaller variety, swap with a plant with a neater habit, or make the bed bigger!

In the meantime, yes - you can remove the old foliage to let air and light at the grass.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks. For the advice. I will cut them back and see what happens.

    Thanks one and all
