bishop dahlias: which red one?

Looking at bishop dahlias. I would love to have one with dark leaves and red flowers.

Wondering what is difference in colour among Llandlaff, Canterbury and Auckland type? Or any other type you suggest...

IMO Llandaff is the best red.

Yes it does look lovely bright red. Is Auckland a bit on orange shade?

Also if I plant these in pots, are they mostly upright? I am going to use big pots(around 46 cm dia) like this one

should I plant one bulb or three in each pot for it to be nice and full?

Llandlaff tubers for £3 were at B&Q & Homebase last time I checked if you are after them - my favourite

I had Aukland in my last house where it grew to about 7ft tall and it had the most stunning colour which always stopped visitors in their tracks . I lost it in a hard winter .

I haven't come across one for sale and photos I've seen just don't do the colour justice.

Lots of flowers are the same shade of red as Llandaff, but Aukland was pretty unique IMHO.

Sarah Raven has Auckland for sale and says they need to be planted 30"/90cms apart so that would be one per pot Newb.   It does look good.  Llandaff is just a bit too scarlet red for me but I do like its purple foliage.

Crocus have Auckland for a bit less plus a 20% off for your first order.  Only £9 for 3.

Well!  Got seduced by the crocus site and its dahlias and cannas and freesias and then find they only post to the UK.   Bums.

This is one of my Auckland dahlias from Sarah Raven last year. Gorgeous rich colour. This was quite newly out - the yellow increased to a ring.
