Outdoor vase + soil on plants

I'm a beginner in gardening, and I have two questions:

How can I get rid of the soil on the top of plants?

I want to plant this small tree in the vase, waht should I do to prevent the soil and water from leaking?

    1. stand the pot (vase) on a large saucer to catch any water  that drains from the pot.

    2. lightly brush the soil off the leaves with your hands.  When planting, I think you will find that some soil or compost will always get onto some of the leaves!!  You can't be pristine when gardening I'm afraid.

Have a look at some of the demonstrations etc on this link

It'll give you the information you need.

Good luck and welcome to gardening image

Use a watering can and water the soil off the leaves.  Some plants - of a robust nature - can be put under a cold shower to clean them.  Outside plants will be kept clean by the rain.
