Identify & advice please

Hi.

First of all, I didn't plant these they were there when I moved in to my new house just under a year ago.

In the summer I had some tall grass that first of all had bright orange flowers. They fell off and a couple of weeks later beautiful purple flowers appeared. I have no idea what this is, I was told it could be crocosmia but when I search it doesn't mention anything about purple flowers. Does anyone know what it is? Next question, now all the grass is dead what should i do with it, I want it to hopefully come back.

Thank you in advance for any help and advice

  • It sounds like you may have a mixture of plants there.  Crocosomia sounds right for the orange flowers.  If the purple flowers were on long wiry stems, several to each stem, it could be dierama (aka angel's fishing rods) which also has tall grass-like leaves:

This is the purple one. It won't let me upload the pic of the orange flower

  • There seems to be a problem with uploading photos, Becki, so can't see them.  I think the website techs have been informed but it may take a day or two for them to fix it given the time of year.

    Thank you
