Privet dying off

I have a well established privet hedge about 6' high & it is gradually turning yellow, losing it's leaves & dying off. About 6' has died now, what is happening & how can I stop anymore dying.

HAS IT REALLY DIED? ARE THE TWIGS BRITTLE AND BROWN AND DRY?

MAYBE IT HASN'T DIED. MAYBE THE TWIGS ARE STILL BENDY AND GREENISH? IF SO, IT MIGHT JUST BE REACTING TO SOMETHING SUCH AS TOO MUCH RAIN.

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

My privet loses some leaves that yellow late autumn/winter time but they are replaced by greener ones come spring. Are you it's dying? Scratch the branch wood and see if it's still green underneath.
