It's Verbena bonariensis. I leave it as it is over winter and cut it back in the spring when the worst of the frosts are over. I cut it back to about 8" tall, just above a new shoot.
In the summer look out for little seedlings with the same type of leaves, as it self-seeds around quite happily. I dig them up and move them to where I want them.

Hi thank you. Would it be ok to cut some of it off now? Just to neaten area up. Its sprawling over wall.
In my garden you can do anything you like to them. They seed everywhere!
