Leylandii

My neighbour has a leylandii of some sort which has grown to about 12 feet high but is very spindly being only about 4 - 5 feet wide at its biggest. My question is whether if the top few inches are lopped off, will it stop, continue to grow up or will it expand sideways? Thanks

IN MY EXPERIENCE IT WILL BOTH GROW UPWARDS AND OUTWARDS.

Up and up and up. and out. If you cut into brown wood it will not regrow. I would get it out now, before you need a crane.

  • Thanks to all so far. Tetley, there is only one tree, I asked as it is near the house. Where does 'brown wood' end? Is it just the trunk?image
