Hellebores
Little now that will change anything. However, they won't mind a mulch of something organic to gently feed them as the leaves emerge and they start the new growth in earnest early next spring. Some garden compost, or well rotted manure, as a two inch layer for a foot or so all round them. Remove any old faded or marked leaves, too, to ensure no fungal spores are retained.

Helleborus niger need nothing now except perhaps a few old leaves removed if they're marked or faded. Leave all the good leaves. They never need a chop, only the removal of old leaves, as they're all but evergreen anyway. You've fed them enough for now.Another feed in mid spring will be fine. Helleborus x hybridus (was h. orientalis) always need the old leaves removed at about Christmas time, just before they start sending up flower buds. It's a precautionary measure as much as good husbandry because it removes any chance of fungal infection spreading from old foliage onto the new which will come up just after the flower buds. I do leave some of mine on, but ONLY if they're clean. They can have a feed as soon as you've done the chop and I put a good layer on, right up to the plant.

In years past I've always left the foliage until it's too late therefore more awkward to remove. I made a note last year to experiment by doing them early this year. Only today I worked my way through half of my oriental hybrids and removed all the foliage. I will leave the others until nearer the end of the year so I have a comparison.
I hope you don't mind me adding too your question aym280
. What is the best treatment for x ericsmithii hybrids? Are they treated the same as the oriental hybrids?
I too am a mere sapling aym280
. Good luck with yours!
Thanks Verdun. I'll leave those ones well alone then.
