Daffodils under Gravel
Hi All
Isn't the weather good but I want some frost so that I can stop doing things in the garden!
I got 50 free daffodils with a plant order and am thinking of planting them under my gravelled beds. There is a membrane that I put down but there are enough gaps around the shrubs that I have had in the ground for about 4 years. The soil is predominantly clay and quite compacted. Any experience of doing this or advice?
Cheers Bob

Hi Bob, never tried that, worth a go with a few bulbs and see what happens
you'll know for next year then...
I think whether the bulbs will work with the shrubs depends on the type of daffs, and the type of shrubs. Little Narcissus 'Tete a Tete' would look fantastic around and beneath medium-large deciduous shrubs. Tall lanky standard daffs would look terrible with small evergreen hebes etc. In fact I've got a downer on taller daff varities in general, the foliage causes problems in most situations, for a fussy gardener like me anyway.
