Box plants
can someone please help with advice on when I can "trim" my box balls ? (& should I mulch them now ahead of wintWr, or no time?) I guess they are going dormant now, so just checking if I must wait til the Spring now? & can you tell me which month? Also, should they be watered or not during the winter? "Thankyou" ????????

Don't trim till late Spring. I often prune May / June time.
Mulching is a good idea.
If they are in the ground, they should not require watering over winter.

Box is traditionally cut on Derby day in about May. You can trim them now to neaten up the late summer growth. Feeding box is simple, a high nitrogen fertiliser like growmore in late winter usually March will normally see them through year. You can alternatively feed with fish blood and bone. If they're in the ground they won't need watering, potted only if the compost dries out.
