Japanese anenome / peony

derekpderekp Posts: 35

My japanese anenomes have finished flowerin. Do I need to cut them back (if yes, how far?) or just leave as is.

My peonies flowered beautifully earlier this year. After the flowers were done, I more or less left the plants in tact because the foliage at this time of the year is lovely. How late can I leave it until I cut the peonies all the way back.

Thank you.

I leave my Japanese anemones as they are for the winter and cut them hard back in the spring.  Their foliage remains for quite a while providing interest in the garden for the winter and also providing a bit of cover and protection for the smaller plants and of course, for the wildlife.

I find the peonies die down when they are ready - I just remove the dead leaves when they're brown and withered.
