My dad says you could be a number of different things, broke one of the two belts / loose belt - damaged pulley - stripped gear in the gear box - cable needs adjusting.
He also said, hold the drive in and pull it backwards, if it stops the belts are gripping but will need adjusting.
I think I got it all before my mind started to wonder.

Has it been serviced lately? I had a similar problem with my Honda and it's like a different machine since it was serviced.
