The only drawback at this time of year is the possible lack of choice if buying from a garden centre. However if it is a gardener that is putting them in for you, he should be getting them from a nursery where the choice should be better.

Hi cassie. If you are buying container grown plants it should be perfectly fine to plant them out now.
Cassie....the soil is still warm enough SW Scotland for planting perennials.
Thank you Gardener putting them in for me was giving me impression it might be too late but I didn't think so.
