Star-shaped weed identification

Please see attached photo of a weed which is invading my garden.

My garden is mainly vegetables, the soil is light and well drained and has been cultivated yearly for about 35 years.

Can you identify this star-shaped, moss-like weed.

It spreads in carpet form and is less than 0.5cm in height.image

    PEARLWORT.

Really does look like Pearlwort, Sagina procumbens.

Weedkiller has no effect, neither does the Flame gun.

    It's pretty.

    Can you not leave it?

  • Thanks all!!

I will get rid of it the old fashioned way, by patient weeding.

Looks as if it would be good for pathways instead of grass - no cutting - however I don't think it could be kept in check.

    Thanks again for your replies.

  • Golden form makes a great replacement for a paving slab, a fine flat cushion, easily controlled (doesn't need any really).  A lovely plant in amongst the stones of a rustic path.
