Sunflower heads ????
Hi everyone,
this summer I grew for the first time some Sunflowers from a free packet of seed, they are called Autumn Beauty.
They have flowered well with many heads on a single plant but now they are starting to go over and i will soon be left with the heads only. What do I do now, the plants are growing right infront of the kitchen window and if I left them on the plant I don't think the birds will come that close to the window to feed off the heads. Should /could I remove the heads and place them somewhere else maybe on the bird table which is a bit further from the house?
It also says on the packet that the seeds from the plants can be used in cooking and eaten as snacks, how do you prepare them for that ?

I just cut off the heads and leave them somewhere safe for the birds to eat without being pounced on by cats of sparrowhawks. They don't care what kind of seed they have.

Thanks very much for all the information . I'll cut one of the heads tomorrow and see what the seeds are like. The recipe link was helpful so thanks for that.
I cut the heads off mine and left them in the pots... all the seeds were gone in just over a day! They must be some well-fed birds in my garden!
