Butterfly Bush

I moved two of my Butterfly Bushes, both of which were thriving, farther back in my garden.  Now both are wilting!  I do not think they are dead, though.  How do I perk them back up? I live in Zone 7 (North Carolina). Thanks for any help you can give me!

I assume you're talking about buddleja?

I suspect they are suffering from transplant shock. It's likely that the roots have been damaged and can no longer sustain the amount of flowers and foliage they used to. I would cut the shrub hard back to lessen the demands on the roots while they recover.  Ensure that they are well watered.

This site is primarily UK focused and few of us will have knowledge of the differences in gardening in various parts of the USA.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Thank-you, I will try that.
