Pearl Bush?

I planted an exochorda x macrantha early in the summer and it has never seemed to thrive. It is in a new bed that we created in the front garden after the lawn was removed which was enriched with plenty of compost and well rotten manure. It lost its leaves very early in September but seems to have buds?

Is this something others have experience of? Can I expect it to go bald prematurely each year?

Will it survive..?

Hi Steve, I planted three together about 4 years ago.  One died immediately the others are only coming good now. I have often been tempted to whip them out but they are pretty. Don't worry about the leaves, they are deciduous. Try a winter mulch and fingers crossed for the spring

  • So maybe it is a slow burn, it seems to be alive so I'll cross my fingers!

  • Just to report, it is back in leaf and covered in white flowers!
