Urn plant care

image

Happy Sunday All,

Could somebody please provide basic care instruction for the above plant?

Friends at work bought me this earlier in the week for my birthday but unfortunately, no labels, tags included!

I managed to ID as a vase / urn plant online and will be keeping indoors, currently on a sunny windowsill but was curious re the flower life cycle, will this gorgeous (but very sharp, as I discovered!) Flower die at any point?

The flowers on this Aechmea will last for months. Keep the central 'cup' filled with water - preferably rainwater at room temperature and keep changing it regularly to prevent it going stagnant. They do not like direct bright sunlight so it may be an idea to move it to a slightly more shaded place.

There is also a few tiny purple flowers blooming between the gaps of the pink spikes, which look usual for the plant from pics on Google, but has left me a bit confused, is the pink thing not the flower on this plant?  image Char

The pink structures are not flowers but bracts and the little purple flowers are the true flowers of the Urn plant. Lovely thing and not too hard to look after.
