Rambling Rector

B3B3 Posts: 25,240

I chopped down my rambling rector to a one foot stump. The theory being, if I cut it to ground level, I would have suckers to deal with.

It's not really practical to dig it out so I've been rubbing off the shoots as they appear on the stump.

Have I got a job for life or is there something else I can do?

Growth follows the knife - you've just encouraged it image

You'd better use some SBK Brushwood killer in the spring.

He needs very little encouragement. Will get him in the spring!

I once planted one as a burglar deterrent by the back alley of a Victorian terrace in a dodgy area of town - it grew like billy-o and certainly kept intruders out - I wonder if it's still there - and if the bin men can still get down the back alley image

The one I planted in the spring reached about 10 feet and has branched  widely across the trellis it was on. It's next stage is for it to take off up the remains of the  leylandii.
