Tropaeolum

For many years I have tried without success  to grow a Tropaeolum up a conifer.  This year I bought a larger plant a n it flowered beautifully.  It now look dead which I am hoping is natural die back.  What do I do now.  Do I prune it to its base and do I mulch ??

Is it Tropeolum Speciolum (red Flowers)?  It dies back in winter and may reappear in a slightly different position from where you planted it, as I have discovered.  It's beautiful growing through a conifer.

Thanks Joyce Do you recommend cutting back the dead shoots?

I leave about 2 feet on it just to remind me where it is when weeding etc in the spring.
