Lift them now or wait till spring?

replacing a wall in the spring which has a large herbaceous border in front of it. Should I lift all plants now, put them in pots to replant after new wall is in, or wait till spring and dig them out then, just before wall is replaced?

A few years ago, when having a fence replaced, I lifted all the shrubs, perrenials , and clematis a few days beforehand, with a good amount of soil round their roots.. I'd bought some kiddies paddling pools and sat all the plants into them with some water.
They sat for a week before being replanted. No problems.
