ID for interesting flowering plant, please.

soulboysoulboy Posts: 429

I'm hoping someone can ID this interesting flowering plant that's appeared in my front garden. The pic's are not the best as the plant is in an awkward spot to get to and they were taken on a very bright day.

One big help in identifying it is that it has quite an unusual flower, in that the centre of the flower has a dark, almost black conical protuberance. Another is that the whole plant is extremely hairy, stems, leaves, and flower buds.

It's quite tall, at least 1m, and would be quite a lot taller but for the fact that a large part of the bottom stem is on the ground supporting the plants' weight.

I freeze the blue flowers in ice cubes to use for pimms.

Thanks Fairygirl. I noticed that when I read the Wiki page on it.

I hope you don't use too many of those. The Wiki page says that there are liver-toxic alkaloids present image

  • I think the alcohol in the Pimms is far more likely to have a deleterious effect on our livers than the borage flowers used to prettify it image
