Pear Tree Problem
Hi, just wondering if anyone can please advise? I've just returned from a month away and noticed all the pears on the pear tree in the garden have split. Every single one. Many of the leaves still look healthy, although there are others that look unhealthy, as the photos show.
Having googled it I came up with two possibilities. The first being Scab and the second, that it’s a problem with drainage in the soil and they’ve swelled and split due to taking on too much water in a short space of time. Comparing them with images of scab, I’m thinking it’s most likely the former, unfortunately.
If it is scab, what’s the best way to deal with it? I’m unsure if the previous owners ever pruned the tree. I think it’s probably overdue a prune this winter, will this help with treating it?
I would love to be able to get some use out of the fruit next year and in years to follow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
