It looks like a Dahlia - possibly Dahlia Purple Ice but I couldn't swear to it image

Thank you both and have looked at both.  I can not find on dahlia collection website but think purple ice could be right except the one in montys garden looked a bit whiter in the centre.  What do you think?

    thank you x

After much deliberation, actually my OH came home from work and said isn't that the one you liked before in montys garden! Oh yes image the Rothsay reveller! Think my first pic from last night was one just opening?  Thank you all for your replies and help x

Lots of them are named aym but its about as difficult as herding cats to try to match Dahlias to names unless you know their names when you buy them - same applies to naming Roses. So many of all these beautiful plants look similar. Once they are in your garden I think you can just call them what you like - after all it isn't essential to know really.

Morning aym! I've also noted that you can find several pictures online of a named variety of plant and all the pictures of the so called flower look like different plants!

Clematis too L'bird. The flowers change colour as they emerge and mature, so you could take several pictures of the same plant over a period of time, and it'll look like you have two or three varieties.... image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
