Is this an Acer ?

I bought this about 10 years ago and in the back of my mind I think it's an Acer but the label is long gone.  As time goes on its looking less and less like an Acer so I thought I'd better find out what it actually is !

Thanks

Cornus controversa variegata? Does it ever flower?

  • Hi Papi Jo, no it has never flowered.  Again reaching into the recesses of my memory something tells me I knew it didn't flower when I bought it, if that makes sense !!

  • It might be a variegated box elder.  It doesn't look like an acer to me, anyway.

  • Looks like Cornus to me.

  • I've got an Acer flamingo growing in my garden  that looks a lot like that.

I think it's Acer negundo, one of the variegated ones, maybe 'Flamingo' as Dilly suggests.

It's got the pinnate leaves of A. negundo which no cornus has.

    Another photo might help

Box Elder is Acer negundo. Common names are so confusing.
