I have several roses that are very tall and only 1 or 2 stems, if I cut them down to about 1ft tall, would this cause them to grow in a more bush like shape ?
Go for it. What have you got to lose. You either kill the thing and plant something else there or you get a better shaped plant that adds something special to your garden.
