my neighbour gave me a clump of this rather pretty grass.  It looks like a pennisetum, but is hardy (and every pennisetum I have had has never survived a winter).  Can anyone tell me what it is ......at the moment it is called Kathy's Grass image

It looks like Hordeum jubatum (foxtail or mousetail barley). It is quite hardy here.

I am not sure it is H. jubatum, it looks more like one of the Penisetums to me.

    I think a penisetum.

Thanks - pretty sure its not H. Jubatum as the flowers emerge fluffy at the outset, rather than having the faint "ear of corn" look about them.  I will go and have a google for hardy penisetums (particularly now I have learned how to spell itimage) and see what I find.

Thanks folksimage. You are the bestimageimage
