Hi filmbuffy. I have to say that those look rather like hazel saplings to me - have you noticed any squirrels around where you live as they often stash nuts and sometimes don't go back to their stash so the nuts germinate and you get your saplings. To get rid of them if that is your plan then you will need to dig them up. Someone else on here will be able to confirm or put forward another suggestion. If you have somewhere you would like a native hedge then you could use these 'free' gifts.

  • Hi thanks for the reply. no cant say I have. plenty of foxes and neighbouring cats though :-)

The trunks are quite strong and established. Is it possible to cut them right down and then use some form of weed killer on them. I have ( yet to see if worked) used stump weed killer on cut down blackberry bushes.

You could cut them down and use Stump Out. Its difficult to see how big - in terms of diameter - these are from you picture. You need to be patient as it takes a while to work and may sometimes require a second treatment.
