Snake bark maple

I'm looking for a tree to add some height and interest between our garden and that of our neighbour.  I want a tree that's fairly upright and won't cast a huge shadow on their garden.

The Snake bark maple Acer capillipes seems to fit the bill.  Does anybody have experience of it?

  • Know it well and there are few acers comparable when it comes to autumn colour. Of course, the bark effect is striking against the right background. Avoid too shallow a soil over chalk or sites where waterlogging is a problem.

    Thanks H-c.

We are on good draining land here so waterlogging won't be a problem.  In fact the deeds for the house forbid commercial extraction of sand and gravel, which gives an idea of what the ground is likeimage
