Salix

Hi I think I might have a transplanted Salix, the stem has it seems a very different leaf to the top, does anybody know how I can keep the top from being overtaken by the lower leaves

Hi le-raine. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean you have a grafted Salix? I think from your description that might be it. If the top of the plant has different leaves to the bottom it means that the root stock (what the upper bit has been grafted on to) is now growing its own leaves. What you have to do is remove ALL leaves that grow below the graft and keep doing that or they will take over and you will lose the nicer top growth.
