hello
I have had my garden for 4 years now and every autumn I mulch with well rotten manuer then in the spring I mix in some compost.
I have clay soil and it does seem to be improving slightly.
Im just wondering if I am doing the right thing or should I be mulching with something els?
I want to improve the soil and the drainage while adding nutrients to the soil.
What do you use as a much and when??
thanks
andy

If you can fork it in, it will act faster in breaking up the clay. Otherwise, it is reliant on worms, and solid clay may not have many worms. If you are mulching around shrubs, then you can't fork it in, just carry on what you are doing.
