My manky plums...

I seem to be (for the second year running) cultivating a grand crop of plum moth caterpillars and am thinking about removing this tree and replacing it with something less hassle. What are the best performing small fruit trees as it is in a place that I need it not to be too large?

I have a pear tree twenty feet away and that is slowly starting to produce more fruit year on year but it is in a position that I can allow it to be fifteen feet high!
