I grow geums but have not experienced yellow patches (assuming you mean on the leaves Mim). Have your geums flowered successfully this year? Perhaps other forum uses may have the answer.
Picture of the leaves might help. Not had yellow patches on any of mine either. Lost a fair number this Summer, we have had so little rain here that anything which likes a dampish soil, has really suffered.
These patches are slightly raised and for several years have been appearing on the wild geums which grow as weeds in my garden. I weed these out as I thought it might spread and now I have cut back all infected leaves and disposed of the foliage. I love geums and have bought several more this year so hope I can get on top of this problem. I have very poor soil, lots of stone and chalk and plants suffer in dry summers.

Is this what you (or rather, your geums) are suffering from? http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/cecidophyes-nudus
Yes thats exactly what I've got! Next question is what can I do? I do weed it out when I see it
but maybe I need to do more.
