What is this??

JudojubJudojub Posts: 108

Hello everybody. I have a shrub in my garden that I am struggling to identify. I wondered if anybody here might be able to help?!

It is just starting to come to life but the leaves aren't as green as they used to be (they seem to have a faint white coating on them) and in the centre is all brittle and dying it would seem.

Even if I can't figure out what it is what should I do with it with regards to all the dead wood underneath? Should I cut it all back and if so when should I do it?

Thanks in advance to anybody that can help me!!imageimage

    that's mildew.

Looks awful doesn't it. Looks a bit like one of the Michaelmmas Daisies but they're not shrubs.

You won't get rid of the white this year and it stays even if you get the chemicals out. If you give it more water next year it may do better, But some plants are very prone to mildew and in my opinion not worth bothering with. I'd dump that and get something with a better constitution,

Agree with Nut, it is an Aster [ micky daisy ]. Some of them are martyrs to mildew.

Yep. Looks like a michaelmas daisy. Mine are covered in mould this year so I guess this summer's weather is good for powdery mildew.

Thank you all for you help. If that's what it looks like then that's what it is!!image. Believe it or not I actually really do like this plant. This is the first time that it's come with the 'mildew' look.

Thank you all again, I think I shall persevere with it, I have grown quite attached to it. *Runs off to google michaelmas daisy* image
