Will this houseplant survive in the garden

Hi,

i've quite a large yucca type houseplant which I've had for quite a while but can't find the correct name for it dispite  looking on line and in my old houseplant book.

But I also have 2 little kittens and one of them likes to climb it and the other one has found a use for the soil in the pot ????  I have moved the plant into an upstairs  room and also covered the top of pot and the soil with cling film but it didn't put a stop to his digging he just ripped the cling film off and there was soil everywhere . I could shut the door but don't want to so I was thinking what would happen to the plant if I put it outside, would it die ?

Can you help with my little problem please.

Thankyou.

Hi Dilly. A lot of Yuccas are hardy and will live happily in the garden but it would really help in identifying the plant if you could upload a picture. Until you know for sure, why not try top dressing the compost in the pot with a thick layer of largish pebbles to deter the little kitty. You can also sprinkle pepper on top of the pot.

    Hi Ladybird4

that's a very good idea , I never thought of that, I could cover with the cling film again, make holes in it and place pebbles on top of that, I think I'll leave the pepper off and see how it goes. He's only a little lad so hopefully he'll grow out of it.

    Thanks very much .

Well I have done some more research on that plant and it turns out to be a Dracaena and they are toxic to cats so I'm not taking any chances , it's not worth the risk so it will have to go.
