Ordering Online

Ordered a hosta online which was meant to be a 2L hosta, firstly size wise I don't think it's a 2L plant but my main issue is that it arrived with part eaten leaves. It was sent bare root in a bag and the bag had a few flies in. Having never ordered online before is this a reasonable condition to receive a plant? imageimage

Hi HydrangeaKate. Firstly, it all depends on how much you were charged for the plant. Its a strange time of year to be buying Hostas - only in that they are coming to the end of their growing season and could have their resident pests travelling with them. A 2L plant comes usually in a pot that measures 6 inches in old money so it isn't enormous and its hard to tell, looking at your pictures, how big the Hosta is. Was it very expensive or a bargain?

It looks to me like a recent division which hasn't started to grow on yet.  I divide hostas much earlier in the season than this so they get the chance to grow on and form good plants which will then really fill out next year.

Don't think that the nibbles would be an issue for me at this stage of the season.  I'd be more concerned about value for money - can I ask what you paid for this and was it an Ebay type purchase from an anonymous individual, or did you buy it from a recognised plant nursery's website?

  • £7 which I thought was a good price, but I'm sure I could get a bigger plant from the GC for the same price but bigger. It was from ebay from a reputable seller.

I certainly would not be worried by what I can see and with a little tlc you have a lovely plant there. I think that was a good price as it is a rather special Hosta by the looks of it.

    See original post

I stayed up Dove and absolutely loved seeing him run. Wasn't he great? Though my stomach was in a knot when he stumbled. Looking forward to watching Andy later on too. More knots in stomach!

  • Well that's good to know, thank you :) Now I just need to keep the slugs away from it.

I have yet to see any of the Olympics - even missed the gymnastics which is usually my favourite part. Been so busy with work I haven't had the time. Maybe I can see some on catchup

Yes Kate. Watch out for slimy beasts! Hope you do manage to catch up - Gymnastics were awesome.

  • Here's a picture of the full plant, for size. It's the Gold Standard.
