I got this a few months ago, I'm sure it's a cosmos but not sure of the type? Or if it's an annual or perennial?

Darn, thought so. I love it. Though if it was a perennial I doubt it'd survive the frost up North. I've been deadheading religiously - should I stop being so vigilant to enable to self seed?
It doesn't self seed here Kate, or very rarely. I'd save some and sow it next year.
Though it still looks very good, maybe keep dead heading and buy a new packet next year.
In the sticks near Peterborough
