Fuchsia not producing any berries?

iamtoiamto Posts: 111

My fuchsia have bloomed beautiful this summer, but i have not seen a single berry on it. Wont all fuchsia produce berries or do i need 2 different sorts?image

I understand the berries should be blue/black, but all i can see is pink "berries" which i suppose is the flower that is about to open..

the berries ripen to blue/black but they don't start like that.

I don't know if all the hybrid fuchsias produce seed but I don't think you'd need 2 different sorts

Cannot say that any of ours ever produce berries.

I deadhead mine before they can ripen into berries, so they continue producing more flowers.  If I want to collect seed I would leave a few flowers to ripen toward the end of summer.

Ok,but I have never deadheaded any of the flowers and they still not producing a single fruit, but as nutculent says it may be a hybrid which is not producing fruits and only flowers..

Why would you want berries? if you dont pick them off the Fuchsia will stop flowering.

That was my thought, too. The fruit doesn't last long before going soft, and, although edible, has very little flavour.
