Elder Black Beauty no longer flowers
in Plants
For the first time my Elder Black Beauty has not flowered I would appreciate any information that would help to make sure it will next year.
I have had it for 15 years and never had this problem before.

Hi Sheila
Can you tell us more about your elder please, such as where it's planted and any pruning and feeding regime?

Thank you for your replies! I did prune it this year. It's in a semi-shady position and I don't feed it. It's in quite acidy soil I think, but it has grown very well - it's about 15 feet tall! It has flowered every year so far, just hasn't this year!
It sounds as if you've pruned the potential flowers off.
Have a look at this earlier thread - it's about Sambucus Black Lace, but the pruning treatment is the same for both.

Oh I hope I didn't! I'll be extra careful next year - thanks for that, and thanks for the link!
I think you did Sheila
there are 2 ways of growing elder, you either let them be and they grow large and flower, or you cut them back to get bigger leaves but few or no flowers

Thank you all, very helpful! Sounds like I did prune the flowers away! Might have to be more selective in pruning next time
Thanks again, I appreciate your help!
