I'm pretty sure its a Tussock moth caterpillar Lorraine. I've seen a few of these in the last few years in my garden. I also found a gorgeous bright lemon and lime coloured one in the local park. There are different varieties - dark, pale, rusty, etc.

I think it is a Vapourer Moth, which is one of the tussock moths. They are common, and feed on many plants.
