Plum tree

Can anyone tell me. If there's such a thing as a container grown plum bush/tree. As I would love to have a go at growing one.

I've never known plums to do very well in containers, and this very well regarded site is also of the same opinion

I hope that's of help. image

THE TROUBLE WITH PLUM TREES IS THAT THE ROOTSTOCKS ARE NEVER VERY DWARFING.

UNLIKE APPLE TREES, WHICH CAN BE GRAFTED ONTO ROOTSTOCKS WHICH DON'T GROW MUCH MORE THAN A COUPLE OF METRES TALL, PLUM ROOTSTOCKS TEND TO MAKE RATHER BIG TREES.

WHEN THE TREE GROWS IT BECOMES TOP HEAVY AND THE WIND WILL EASILY KNOCK IT OVER.

ALSO, THEY ARE HUNGRY PLANTS AND LIKE A LOT OF WATER WHICH IS OK IF THEY ARE GROWING IN THE EARTH BUT A LOT OF TENDING NEEDED IN A POT.
