Help! Is my Garrya tree dying?!

My Garrya tree over the past month or so has started to look rather sorry for itself. I've attached some photos does anyone know what it could be? It's in my patio area which is unfortunately where my dogs designated part of our garden is, could it be his urine that is killing it off or something else? We have clay soil. Any help much appreciated.

Garrya need a well drained soil so as you say you have a clay soil, have you added any grit etc to try to improve draimage?

I haven't no, it's obviously been in for a fair few years so I presumed it would be ok? It was already well established when we moved here. We've also had a really dry spell so didn't think it would be that. Do you think it is that as opposed to the dog urine or something else? The leaves are very dry and curling.

I see, so a well established tree. You are very lucky having a dry spell image but that could be contributing to the tree's problem. If the dog pees on the tree then lack of rain means there is nothing to dilute the urine. Despite it being a clay and therefore a relatively wet soil, I would give it a really good watering and try rinsing the area after the dog has peed and see what happens.
