garden clearance

Hi I am clearing a neighbours garden that hasn't been touched for years as she is a pensioner.I have chopped al the weedsdown and out that were over knee high.the soil has grass and stones and everything Elsa.I have cleared as best I could and come across a plastic or polythene membrane covering the garden. Underneath is beautiful soil.what would I do best for future. Remove membrane put weedkiller down or what .

    Hi David. If the membrane is now clear of any plants and your neighbour wants to have flowers with less weeds then you could make cross-shaped cuts in the membrane and plant through it into the good soil beneath.
