Miniature Hostas

Hi All,

I want to start growing a collection of miniature hostas in the garden. Can any of you recommend a place to buy them from with a wide range?

Thanks

It would be worth preparing to deal with a slug problem  before you invest in any plants.  They could disappear overnight. Buy some slug gone wool pellets or slug nematodes or something like that before you start growing hostas.

Hostas are much loved by slugs.

You could try  them on stageing with sharp grit in between the pots or something like that to deter the slugs.

    Good luck with that.

  • Thanks weedy. Fortunately we don't have a slug problem due to the volume of amphibians within the garden. I already grow hostas that are never eaten I just wanted to know more about the miniature versions that often have the prefix mouse.

    Thanks for the reply though

Bowdens in Devon have a huge collection, but I find  pricey.

Bali hi, online from NI also have a huge selection.

    Google, "hosta suppliers UK"

I don't have many of the miniatures, but there's always time eh?image

Lucky You! image. Enjoy the hostas . If I sounded bitter there  I am feeling very very anti slug at present and it shows.

No ponds around here to encourage any amphibians and I could not manage one with my creaky joints.

  • Thanks Hostafan.

Iamweedy, we used to have massive slug problems. I actually made the pond as a form of personal therapy and it has made a world of difference.

The only downside is that a pair of grass snakes entered the garden last autumn and shed in the composter. I actually liked the snakes being in the garden but the toads disappeared at that point!

Newts have now bossed the pond even to the point where I observed one chasing a frog out of the pond!
